Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga in partnership with HBDHB and the Minsitry of Health has just celebrated the first anniversary of delivering the Say Ahh Programme within Irongate, Peterhead and Flaxmere Primary Schools.
In response to 8 reported cases of Rheumatic Fever within
the Flaxmere Community, Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga in
collaboration with partners and an integrated team of GPs, Nurses
and kaimahi a workable solution has been implemented over the past
12 months.
With long standing relationships with Flaxmere primary schools,
Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga has been able to adopt this new
initiative without resource, build infrastructure with key partners
and accelerate its implementation within the community.
The School Based Nursing team has been able to swab over 900
tamariki within the community while providing nurse-led treatment
and whanau education within the home. Feedback to the services
provided has been very positive.
Since the Say Ahh Programme has been in operation, there has
been no new cases of rheumatic fever for tamariki within the three
Flaxmere primary schools.
